Doniford Bay and beyond

You will not be short of things to do

The good news is you barely have to leave the park. The better news is that when you do, you have got a farm next door, a harbour town down the road and Exmoor out the back.

Start here

Everything on the park

Most of it is a two minute walk from the caravan door. The pools, the venue and the bookable activities need a Haven Play Pass, which you buy direct from Haven, not from us. Everything else is free.

Classic Haven entertainment

The proper stuff, every night. Live shows in the venue, the Haven characters doing the rounds for the little ones, and a bar that stays open long enough for the grown-ups.

Prize bingo is the big one. Eyes down, dab away, and try not to take it too seriously when the family on the next table wins the meat raffle again. There is kids bingo earlier in the evening too, which is exactly as chaotic as it sounds and worth every minute.

Two pools, indoor and outdoor

A heated indoor pool for when the Somerset weather does what Somerset weather does, and a heated outdoor pool for when it behaves. Both are a short flat walk from the caravan.

Get there early in the school holidays if you want a lounger. Or do not, and go at teatime when everyone else is queuing for chips.

The arcade

Where your 2p pieces go to die. The children will discover the coin pushers within about four minutes of arriving and you will not see them again until they need more change.

Air hockey, claw machines, the lot. Genuinely a lifesaver on a wet afternoon.

Play parks, plural

Not one play park, several, dotted around the site. Which sounds like a small thing until you are three days in and realise there is always one within about ninety seconds of wherever you have collapsed.

Climbing frames, slides, swings, and open grass to run off whatever they have just eaten. The little ones get the softer equipment, the bigger ones get the stuff you would rather not watch them climb.

The practical upshot: you can send them out, sit down with a coffee, and still see them. On a family holiday that is worth more than any of the paid attractions.

And there is more

The rest of the park

None of this needs a car. All of it is a walk from the caravan door.

Crazy golf
Family rivalry

Crazy golf

Nine holes of increasingly bitter family rivalry. Someone will cheat. Someone will insist they did not. You pay per round, and you do not need a Play Pass for it.

Go-karts
Pedal power

Go-karts

Pedal karts on a proper little circuit. Enormously popular, so expect a queue at peak times, and expect to be asked for another go roughly four seconds after the first one ends.

Bookable activities
Book ahead

Bookable activities

Archery, fencing, climbing, water walkerz, sports coaching, the kids' clubs. These are the ones you book, and they go quickly in the school holidays, so get in early. A Haven Play Pass is needed.

Fish and chip takeaway
Chip night

Fish & chip takeaway

On site, and the correct answer to at least one evening of your holiday. Eat them on the decking with the sea somewhere off to your right. No pass, no booking, no fuss.

Restaurants on site
A night off cooking

Restaurants

Sit-down food on the park when nobody can face cooking, which on a caravan holiday is most nights. Family-friendly, open to everyone, and you do not need a pass to eat.

🍴 And the Sunday carvery. A proper Somerset carvery, done the way it should be done. Come hungry, wear something forgiving, and do not make plans for the afternoon.

Indoor and outdoor bars
Sundowners

Bars, indoor and outdoor

An indoor bar for the evening entertainment, and an outdoor one for the afternoons when Somerset remembers it is summer. A cold drink outside while the kids run riot is, frankly, the whole point.

Costs nothing

The best bits are free

🚗

Parking

Free, right by the caravan. No permit, no faff, no daily charge.

🏖

The beach

Free, and straight off the park. Shingle and sand, brilliant rock pools, and one of the best fossil beaches in the country at low tide.

🐄

Doniford Farm

Free. It is literally next door, and the children will want to go every single day.

Right next door

Doniford Farm

You can walk to it. It is a working farm on the edge of the park, it is free to go in, and it will happily eat an entire morning.

Cows, sheep, chickens, the lot. It is not a slick theme-park sort of place, it is a real farm, and that is precisely why children love it. Take wellies.

Times and access can vary with the seasons and the farm's own work, so have a look when you arrive.

Off the park

Doniford Beach

Down the path and you are on it. At low tide the rock pools open up and the fossil hunting is genuinely good, not the sort of "genuinely good" that means you will find a slightly interesting stone.

Bring a bucket. Bring a net. Lose an afternoon.

Minutes down the road

Watchet

A proper little harbour town, and the reason a lot of people come back. A working marina, a medieval quay, and streets narrow enough that you have to breathe in.

There are galleries, a museum, independent shops, a handful of very good pubs and the sort of cafes where the cake is enormous. It is also the western end of the West Somerset Railway, so you can climb onto a steam train and let it take you along the coast.

Ten minutes in the car. Nice walk if you fancy it.

Blue Anchor Car Boot

The good news: no 6am alarm. This one is an afternoon affair. Sellers set up from 1pm, buyers get in from 2pm, so you can have a lazy morning on the beach and still make it.

Rummaging through other people's things by the sea, with a bag of chips. Children get in free, and a pound will buy them something they will treasure for about a day and a half.
